INOVAIT is a new network with the objective of strengthening Canada’s leadership in the IGT sector. Led by Sunnybrook and supported by the Government of Canada through the Strategic Innovation Fund Program, the network is offering pilot funding of up to $125,000 for short-term collaborative research and development projects that end no later than March 31, 2022. On February 4, The Forge McMaster is hosting the first session of a two-part, interactive virtual workshop series on intellectual property strategy for healthtech and medtech startups. Both workshops will feature U.S.-based intellectual property and technology law firm, Knobbe Martens and Ontario-based medical device company, Epineuron.

Part one will provide a quick overview of the legal instruments that can be used by healthtech/medtech companies looking to protect their intellectual property, then dive into IP strategy. When discussing IP strategy, Knobbe Martens will present Epineuron as a case-study. Epineuron recently raised a seed round and founders Mike and Sergio cannot emphasize enough the importance of a strong IP strategy, when it comes to raising money.

Featuring Janet Rossant, CC, PhD, FRS, FRSC is Senior Scientist and Chief of Research Emeritus at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and President and Scientific Director of the Gairdner Foundation. She is an internationally recognized developmental and stem cell biologist, exploring the biology of the early embryo and its stem cells and their applications to understanding and treating human disease.
