The Consulate General of Canada in Chicago is launching a third Canada-Chicago Mentoring Program (C2MP) providing hands-on support to Canadian pharmaceutical, health IT and medical device startups targeting the US market. The program matches three innovative Canadian startups with industry mentors to strengthen the company’s business model, value proposition and market access strategy for the US market.
Application Form - The Deadline to apply is November 23, 2016.
This program is implemented in partnership with Chicago Innovation Mentors (CIM) & affiliated with MATTER, Chicago’s life sciences and healthcare incubator. Over a period of six months, mentors offer expertise in business planning, market development, coaching, team formation, financial planning and manufacturing to accelerate Canadian company success in the US market.
The program for successful applicants consists of:
1) An initial orientation by webinar in January 2017
2) Day of Acceleration in Chicago February 8, 2017 (seminar, pitch session and networking with mentors)
3) Six-month mentoring February-August 2017 with 3-5 mentors
*Companies are encouraged to meet with mentors in Chicago at least once each month, with remote mentoring in between visits. Free desk space and programming at MATTER, Chicago’s top tier healthcare incubator, is included.
Company criteria for acceptance
• Canadian small enterprise with a potential for high growth
• Proprietary technology
• A business plan
• Initial traction in the marketplace
• Looking for mentoring & be prepared for critique of business plan & strategy for market access
• Successful in securing funds – from investors, grants, or sales to customers
• Resources to visit the market three times to meet with the mentoring team
