Picking up where we left off last week, the second day of the 2019 Niagara Investment Summit (February 20th-22nd, 2019) continued on the first day’s theme: bringing together CEOs and senior executives from Canada’s most innovative health science companies with investors and strategics in beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake.

After a wonderful evening at Peller Estates, the Summit convened bright and early on February 22nd with breakfast and the second panel discussion – The State of Precision Medicine: Present & Future. Bettina Hamelin (Ontario Genomics) moderated a discussion that focused on identifying challenges companies in the precision medicine sector are facing, and imagining the future of this sector both at home and abroad. The panellists – Robert Verhagen (CCAB), Stefano Picone (Conavi Medical), Olaf Felske (Medtronic), Peter Hickey (Adaptiiv) and Vincent Ling (Takeda) contributed their unique perspectives on precision medicine as it relates to both devices and therapeutics. The panel discussed how precision medicine may impact our ability to deliver health care better, faster and cheaper in the context of the era of big data and AI.

Following the panel, the Summit then broke out into separate rooms for one-on-one meetings between presenting companies and investors. After a full day of pitches the day prior, both investors and companies were keen to sit down more formally with each other to continue conversations that they may have started earlier during the Summit.

Following the full morning of one-on-one meetings, attendees headed out for a Summit-ending lunch at Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery for a meal beside the ice rink. Some laced ‘em up for a little skating after lunch - a true Canadian farewell before heading home.

Overall, the 2019 Niagara Investment Summit was an incredible success with over 80 health science companies, global investors & venture capitalists, and health science industry leaders attending.

OBIO would like to thank those who supported the 2019 Niagara Investment Summit: Norton Rose Fulbright, Amgen, CANet, Ontario Genomics, University of Waterloo, Ontario Brain Institute, Centre for the Commercialization of Antibodies and Biologics, University of Toronto, Ryerson University and McMaster University.
