What is the Institute for Biomedical Entrepreneurship (IBE) Certificate Program?

Since 2017, The IBE has offered in-person certificate programs helping entrepreneurs in Boston, Austin, Leiden, London and Paris
to accelerate innovation to the marketplace. OBIO® in partnership with The Ottawa Health Innovation Hub (OHI Hub) and IBE are excited to bring this proven program to Canada.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • The program is intended for participants who have a grasp of the basic concepts and are actively commercializing and building health science technology companies.

  • The curriculum will have a strong focus on strategic commercialization:

    • Company/corporate structuring for taxation and US investment

    • Strategies for filing, maintaining and protecting intellectual property

    • Product/clinical planning with manufacturing, intellectual property and market access strategies
      in mind

    • Making your company value proposition more attractive to investors

    • Preparing, pitching and securing funding in challenging times

  • Ideal candidates:

    • Academic entrepreneurs and researchers

    • Early-stage and venture-backed company leaders

    • People commercializing products in life sciences in established companies

  • The Program includes:

    • Five days of classroom and experiential project work

    • A personal behavioral analysis with a one-on-one feedback session

    • An up-front needs assessment and company
      profile survey to identify knowledge gaps and strategic goals.

    • Daily sessions with instructors and advisors to advance team pitches

    • Pitch presentation to a panel of VCs for feedback

    • Access to the IBE network and ongoing support

    • Copies of all program information and network contacts through a dedicated mobile app.

    • Meals, snacks and an evening reception

Registration & Subsidies

Cost of the 5 day in-person certificate program is $5,000 USD.

Space is limited and prioritized for Ontario-based health science companies. Out-of-province participants may apply and will be notified of acceptance based on availability.

OBIO® members may be eligible for subsidies through the Business Development Skills Program (BDSP™). Participants must be a full-time employee of an Ontario-based company commercializing products or services in the health science sector.

OBIO® member companies not in the BDSP™ who wish to register additional participants are eligible for a 50% course fee reimbursement.

Subsidies and course fees will be reimbursed upon successful completion of the program.
