Our Mandate

Ontario Bioscience Industry Organization works to strengthen and encourage the growth of a sustainable life sciences sector in Ontario.  OBIO advocates on behalf of the life sciences industry, identifies needs and develops proposals for policies and programs to address those needs.  OBIO plays an important role in promoting Ontario’s position as a center for the life sciences and serves the industry by engaging stakeholders in the areas of job creation, access to capital and an improved operating climate.  OBIO strategically partners with other organizations committed to the same objectives.

Vision: Ontario Bioscience Industry Organization (OBIO) enables the application and commercialization of life science technology developed by its members for the benefit of Ontarians, Canadians and international and global markets.

Mission: Ontario Bioscience Industry Organization (OBIO) exists to advance the development and growth of a sustainable, commercially driven life sciences industry in Ontario.

Value Proposition: Ontario Bioscience Industry Organization (OBIO) will work to develop Ontario as the pipeline province for life sciences.  OBIO will provide a common voice and ‘one stop shop’ for public policy for the industry to advance research and commercialization by working with the Ontario Government, bioscience companies and stakeholders on shared issues impacting industry sustainability and growth; specifically financing and commercialization.

Strategic Goals

  • Advocacy and Policy Development:  OBIO is a knowledgeable and active advocate for policies, initiatives and programs which strengthen the life sciences sector in Ontario.
  • Commercialization and Economic Development: OBIO facilitates economic development in Ontario and focuses its actions on implementation and support for the successful commercialization of Ontario’s life science products.
  • Communications and Events: OBIO communications serve to educate Government and businesses and opens dialogues on sector issues, trends and opportunities. OBIO events support the delivery of the OBIO mandate.
  • Human resource development: Growing the numbers of jobs in the life sciences industry through policies that help to build sustainable companies
